June marks Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. This global initiative raises awareness about Alzheimer’s disease globally — and you can be a part of it.

The Alzheimer’s Association urges people of all ages to participate. As more people join, they can work together to achieve a common goal: curing dementia once and for all.

There is a lot to like about Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. Now, let’s answer some of the biggest questions about it.

What Is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month?

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month recognizes people dealing with dementia. During the month, the Alzheimer’s Association hosts events to teach people about Alzheimer’s disease.

Why Is It Important?

Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia affect more than 55 million globally. To date, researchers have made significant progress in their efforts to help individuals dealing with dementia. However, plenty of work lies ahead to find a cure.

During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, people can learn about dementia and the dangers associated with it. Events are held around the world to teach people about dementia, its symptoms, and how to help those who may be dealing with it. Also, these events encourage people to donate to fund dementia research. That way, researchers can continue to study myriad forms of dementia and move closer to curing it.

How Can You Participate?

1. Update Your Facebook Profile

Add a purple overlay to your Facebook profile photo. This lets you show your support for the month-long initiative. Meanwhile, if anyone asks about the purple overlay, explain the meaning behind it. From here, you can do your part to educate others about Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.

2. Wear Purple

Wear purple clothing and accessories during the month of June. You can also pick up official apparel from the Alzheimer’s Association.

3. Use the Hashtag #endalz to Explain Why You Go Purple.

Post updates on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media websites on why you are going purple for the month of June. This gives anyone who reads your posts insights into the meaning behind Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. It may lead individuals who previously knew nothing about the initiative to get behind it.
